Church of England

The three parishes are part of the Benefice of Lostwithiel, St Winnow, St Veep, Boconnoc, Bradoc and Lanlivery. All welcome visitors and newcomers. For details of services see the Calendar page.

St Winnow parish church stands in a remote location, midway between Lerryn and Lostwithiel. It is much-loved and well supported as a place of worship, welcoming everyone in an atmosphere of friendliness and open mindedness. The parish includes St Winnow C of E Primary School with 80 pupils.  Our services are joyful and relaxed. We are always prepared to try new things out. We don’t mind noise! The church is also well used as a venue for events throughout the year such as concerts, talks and Community picnics.

St Nectan’s Chapel is tiny chapel situated in the middle of fields. We hold services there during the summer months and we also hold a Dawn Eucharist on Easter morning which is extremely well attended. St Saviour’s Church Centre was built as a mission chapel within Lostwithiel. It is used for parish and benefice activities and meetings. Groups – Sew What Group, the Senior Citizens Club, Crossfire and the Church Players meet there regularly.

St Veep’s beautiful church stands on a hill, close to the lovely hamlet of Penpol. We are a church that continues to have very close links with the farming community – one of our best attended services is the annual Harvest Festival.

We have a strong respect for the past and are very fond of our usual
Holy Communion and evening services taken from the Book of Common Prayer. We are proud of our Family Service, which over the past six years has flourished. We always try to get a donkey to help in our worship on Palm Sunday and on Mother’s Day we invite back all those children who have been christened in the past five years.
Our links with our church school in Lerryn are very important to us. The School come up to the church for services at Christmas and Harvest. The bellringers are very important members of our Church, they ring on the 3rd Sunday of each month at Evensong.

Boconnoc’s charming church has been welcoming worshippers for around 750 years and is positioned at the heart of the Boconnoc Estate, looking south down the Lerryn Valley. Our history is very important to us and we are generally traditional in our worship. Services have been from the Book of Common Prayer, but we have recently introduced a Family Service one Sunday a month. Many people from the parish and beyond come for Christmas, Easter and the Harvest Festival.

In recent years, Boconnoc House has been successfully promoted as a venue for wedding receptions. Consequently the number of weddings held in the church has grown.
We are conscious that the Boconnoc parish has no centre as such for its residents. We would love the church to be the focal point for the community and we are trying to work out how best to go about this.

Directions to Boconnoc Church

The official route into Boconnoc, and the one to take if you are coming from a distance, is from the A390 (the road from Liskeard to Lostwithiel).

Coming from the West, on the A390, turn right onto the B3359 just before East Taphouse. Coming from the East, turn left onto it just as you leave East Taphouse. The B3359 is signed to Looe and Polperro. There is also a brown sign for Porfell Animal Farm.

Follow the B3359 for three quarters of a mile and then take a right turn, and an immediate left turn (signed to Couch’s Mill and Lerryn). You are still following signs to Porfell Animal farm. There are also small white signs for Boconnoc.

After half a mile, take the right turn at the crossroads. There is a small white sign to Boconnoc, visible when you are close to the turning.

After a further half mile, you cross a road to enter the Boconnoc Estate (marked “Private Road”).

Follow this estate road for 2 miles, passing the Obelisk on the right, and the House and the Church come into view.

For parishioners and others attending the church from Couch’s Mill, Lerryn etc., the Boconnoc Estate normally permits the use of the entrance in Couch’s Mill (opposite the old smithy with the post-box in the wall). This is an unmade but passable road that eventually joins a metalled road. Turn right onto the metalled road, and, when you cross the bridge, take the right fork, which leads to Boconnoc House and the church.
