Encounter Cornwall is a strong supporter of the local community and this website. We are able to hire kayaks, buoyancy aids and any canoeing equipment for residents who need it. We also offer guided kayaking trips, licensed by Fowey Harbour Commission, and self hire so your friends and visitors can join you on the river when they visit. We also organise birthday trips and special occasions on the river. We are always happy to advise and help any locals wanting information about kayaking in Cornwall generally or to give help and advice for those about to buy equipment. We also work with the community to provide free trips and events for a variety of clubs and associations and are always happy to consider any requests. In the past few years this has included free trips for everything from local church and youth club groups, the village school and Lostwithiel Girl Guides through to trips for young women from the Women's Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre. We have 2 licensed safety boats and employ 4 licensed boatmen who are village residents and again we are happy for them to be used to work with community groups in support of other events. The bus takes 16 passengers plus driver, and the modest rate of £1.20 per mile includes all fuel costs. We also provide a half-hour familiarisation session for those who have not previously driven our bus, which has an automatic gearbox. In case any problems arise, we are RAC members and fully insured. Hirers provide their own driver, who must be over 25 years of age and must produce their driving licence.
