Royal wedding celebrations

June 1st 2011

A very big thank you to Ros, Elizabeth, Jackie and Fiona and everyone who worked so enthusiastically in the Village Hall for the royal wedding day.

We are sure that William and Kate would have been delighted to see the artistic decorations in the hall and to feel the air of magic and excitement that stayed with us here in Lerryn all day.

It was a WONDERFUL CELEBRATION - a day to remember with pride. THANK YOU.

Amazing new photo of the Village Shop unearthed.

June 1st 2011

On Friday a gentleman called at our house " Pengillan " and introduced himself to me as David Row of Newquay. He then showed me a press cutting taken in 1962 showing a photograph of Lerryn main Bridge with Pengillan in the background, written on the press cutting was a note saying my father's Grandfather lived here. He then produced a beautiful photograph of the village shop, taken many years ago, perhaps late 1800s? The photograph shows Leonard Rowe the owner of the shop, mother and her father with a horse and cart. The Lady to the right is unknown. I did ask why the "e" was mising from his name, but couldn't establish an answer for that.

Perhaps the History Society could help with more imfomation? To see the photograph go the the Photo Archive and click onto the year 1890s or click on the image below:

Bank Holiday Visitors

May 30th 2011

Have you spotted this trio of dunlin which have been enjoying Lerryn this weekend?  Dunlin are a very common wader which are seen in large flocks in the winter.  However, they are not common in Lerryn and it is unusual to see them at this time of year on our river.
