HEDGEHOGS

Do you have a hedgehog in your garden? If so, you are one of the lucky ones.  In the 'heading-for-extinction' race, hedgehogs are said to be running about level with wild tigers.  Lerryn WI this year are taking part in Operation Hedgehog, a project co-ordinated by the Cornwall Wildlife Trust. The aim of the project is to better understand the status of hedgehogs in Cornwall and to raise awareness of their decline.

Throughout 2020 the WI will be monitoring the hedgehog population in Lerryn and surrounding areas.

Hedgehogs should be coming out of hibernation in March/April, with hoglets born from May onwards, and monitoring stations will be set up at appropriate sites in the hope of recording hedgehog activity. If you are lucky enough to have a resident hedgehog, we would love to hear from you.
