THE GEORGE KEAST SHIELD

Lerryn Produce Association would like to publicly thank the relatives of George Keast for donating this magnificent shield to the Association.

The shield is to be awarded annually to the “Young Gardener of the Year” at Lerryn School. Encouraged by headmaster David Vipond we are jointly, with the school, organising a competition in which the whole school will take part concerning the growing of potatoes. The shield will be presented to the pupil who grows the heaviest weight of the crop and everyone will be encouraged to take their harvest home for all the family to share.

The Produce Association will continue to sponsor a digital photographic competition for the school, details will be finalised at the start of the summer term.

Finally may I remind you all that our Annual Coffee Morning and Plant Sale will take place on Saturday May 16th. at 10.30 in the Village Hall.

Besides the normal plant sale, coffee and biscuits are available plus a raffle and a scrumptious cake stall prepared by the W.I. Also this is a good time to pick up your Show Schedule so you have plenty of time to plan your entries. It is also the time to renew your membership or indeed join the Association. Membership is only £1. and it qualifies you to win many more prizes at the Show as well as generally supporting the Association.

Viv Turner our cup steward would be pleased if you could return any cups won in 2008 to her as soon as possible please.

Thank you for your support and happy gardening.
