Message from the Chair of the Lerryn Produce Committee

Thursday 10th March 2011

Although the days so far in March have been fine and sunny, the nights have been jolly cold. President Eric told me that the coldest night in Lerryn was -6% followed by two nights of -5%.

Here at Botallick our magnolias are struggling to flower and our vice-chairman’s early potatoes even caught the frost in his greenhouse.

When you are planting seeds,  please sow a few extra so we can sell the excess at our plant sale in May. This is most important as the Plant Sale effectively funds our Annual Show.

Our AGM was held in early March and President Eric thanked all the committee both for their hard work and for the convivial way they all worked together.

We would all like to thank Viv Turner, our former Cup Steward, for her hard work over the last few years. We are pleased to report that Viv is staying on the committee but her place as cup steward is being taken by John & Sue Hancock; we wish them well and are happy to welcome them to the committee.

Finally a word about finances, although we have adequate reserves, the committee made a small loss last year for the first time in recent memory. We did have some exceptional expenses but it does bear out how important it is to support the Plant Sale on Saturday May 21st.
