News from lerryn.net

Saturday 30th June 2018

Many of you will know of and use lerryn.net to keep up to date with local community and business news in and around the village (if you don’t please check it out!).

As well as being a hub of information for our rural community, lerryn.net is also an important treasure trove of photos and historical archives, which generates worldwide interest from former residents and their families, helps people to research and connect with their past and preserves memories for our present and future generations.

lerryn.net is community funded and steered by the way that local people use it (individuals, groups, clubs, businesses, charities, organisations, etc.) and the site is now over 10 years old.  Whilst it has served well, it is now time to bring it up to date so that it can be viewed more readily from today's modern mobile devices.  It can be clunky at times and not easy to use for those that want to include posters in news items for example.  Looking forward, a more up to date website is needed and one that everybody finds easy to use.

The very small lerryn.net committee is about to embark on a fundraising programme to raise in the region of £2,400 in order to commission a new web designer.  Exciting but challenging times!

The first fundraising event will take place on Saturday, 30th June 2018 when they will be holding a coffee morning in the Lerryn Memorial Hall from 10.30am until 12.00pm.  The committee will be showing a few slide shows of the photos from the archives as well as from the photo gallery - a lovely opportunity to see whether you or family and friends feature in any of them.

In addition to the usual stalls, there will also be a donation box if individuals, groups and organisations have any spare cash to donate.

lerryn.net is a vital link to many in our locality, such as the elderly and those rurally isolated as it allows them to remain involved and contribute virtually, maintaining the close community cohesion and togetherness that we are all proud of.

There will be other fundraising events taking place in the coming weeks which will be posted, including a Crowdfunder page - again details to follow.  The dedicated committee will also shortly be applying for grant funding, most of which relies upon matched funding.  Please could you therefore share with anyone who may be able to help with donations or resources to support fundraising.
