If anyone, rather than sending flowers, would prefer to make a donation, this may be made to "Lerryn Memorial Hall" which was dear to Jean's heart. There will be boxes for donations at the Crematorium and in the Memorial Hall.
A number of relatives and family friends will be attending the funeral and Ronald has asked that, if anyone is able to offer accommodation for a couple of nights, would they please contact him direct.
December 26th 2008
We are sad to have to let you know that Jean Elliott passed away peacefully during the morning on Boxing Day. Duncan arrived from New Zealand on Christmas Eve and so all the family are there for support at the moment.
Further details will be posted as they become available.
Jean was a wonderful lady and we will all miss her terribly. Our thoughts are with Ronald and his family at this sad time.

Seagull Race Results & Message from the Commodore RLYS.
December 21st 2008
From the Commodore RLYS.
The special 21st anniversary event was a great success and the weather was kind to us. My congratulations to all those who put in so much effort to dress their boats and themselves and spruce up their engines. It made a very colourful spectacle. My thanks to all my colleagues on the RLYS committee for their support and hard work in organising the event and to Penny and Anne for doing the registration, Annie and Rachel for doing the Mulled pies and mince wine(!) and Mike and June for selling Raffle tickets.
There were quite a number of disqualifications this year. Unfortunately those involved have only themselves to blame. The rules are very clearly set out in the race instructions and I suspect that several competitors did not bother to read them. The rules have to be applied for safety reasons and we would not be allowed to run the event without them.
I am delighted to report that the event raised £227 from the RNLI raffle. The catering and entry fees raised a further £290 which will be distributed to local organisations / charities. A big thank you to everyone.
Not many cakes; plenty of ale - Seagull Race 2008
December 21st 2008
48 boats registered, despite the fact that we were all probably meant to be doing something else the last Saturday before Christmas. In better weather than we had for the midsummer solstice, a party atmosphere prevailed in line with the theme for the day - fuelled by a good supply of mulled wine and mince pies. It was amazing how many ways people managed to interpret the 'party' idea. Have a look at the Gallery page to see:
There were also all the usual local party accessories: wigs, funny hats, pirate outfits and - of course - men in fishnets.
There were new departures to mark the event's 21st anniversary. Sadly, the 'best decorated cake' competition attracted only one entry. Luckily it was a very good entry, so there was no difficulty about awarding the first prize! There was also an entertaining tug o' war between the winning boats. This was soon over, and no doubt a bit frustrating for those whose engine at that one crucial moment failed to start - all part of the genuine Seagull tradition!
The prize-giving and raffle draw were hosted at lunchtime by The Ship Inn, where it was announced that well over £200 had been raised for the RNLI - a good end to a good morning. Congratulations to all those involved!

Message from The Richards Family
December 17th 2008
This is just a little thank you and goodbye to everyone in Lerryn from the Richards Family
By the time you read this we will be well into the first leg of our New Zealand Ad venture. It will be hard to leave all of our lovely friends and family in Lerryn but hopefully this is just Au Revoir and not goodbye as I hope we will see a lot of you again soon.
Since we arrived in Cornwall well over 10 years ago we have made a lot of lovely friends and I just want to thank a few who have made our stay here particularly memorable.
Firstly thanks to Roz who helped in Josh’s early years and who I have a lot to thank for – without her I am sure he would not have eased himself into playgroup and then school so well and of course developed such lovely manners ! Special thanks must go to Mrs Oliver who has been a wonderful friend and teacher to us both, without her Joshua would certainly not be working for his Grade 3 Piano exam and I am hoping she will be one of our first visitors. A huge thank you to Wendy and Sandra and Mr Vipond all who have had to put up with me as well as Joshua for the last five years. Thank you for making my time in school so enjoyable. To David a special thank you for teaching Joshua how to play the guitar. We have been truly blessed to have known you all and Josh has had the most wonderful start in his academic life.
I would like to thank Alix for being such an excellent friend and to Jackie and Tracey and to all the people who organised the brilliant Mama Mia evening. For the girls at the shop and all the kind people who have wished us well and sent us cards over the last few days – we will miss you all.
Without Jane and Polmartin Stables I don’t know how I would have kept my sanity for these past few months and who introduced me to her lovely Arabs. The girls Tess and Jazz would like to thank the biscuit ladies for all the lovely doggie treats, we will also miss meeting Mike and Dennis on our walks. I know Joshua will want to thank Jonathan at Lostwithiel Youth Football Club and all his friends in the U11’s squad and all the members of the Pantomime.
Lastly but not least my lovely understanding family and especially Helga who we are leaving behind but certainly not forgetting and who we hope will visit us soon.
If you would like to follow our adventures we have a travel blog and will keep it updated regularly
We hope to see you again soon
Love from Charlotte, Jo and Joshua

Lerryn pantomime success
December 8th 2008
The annual pantomime had a hard time this year, beset throughout by illness and other problems,
but in the end the cast of adults and children pulled out all the stops to create a notable success
of 'Beauty and the Beast'. Thanks to Malcolm's input and a lot of local talent, the singing was
magnificent, and so were the costumes and make-up. (If anybody needs a wart, Viv is now an expert!)
Congratulations to all, and many thanks to all those who helped.
