The east side of the Fowey and Lerryn rivers use 01208-87XXXX phone numbers, and PenPol too, all coming from the exchange at Lostwithiel. The line lengths are very long, and the DSL broadband support is terrible, or unobtainable - and due to the physics of copper phone lines, will remain so for the foreseeable future.

So a few business users have come together to install a wireless broadband network, bringing the DSL services available in Golant (based off the Fowey exchange) to our users. We're getting 2Mbps Internet service, and typically 32Mbps between ourselves!

This service is run by the community, for community business users. The installation costs are too expensive to be for everyone, but for those of us who _need_ to be connected, it's worth it!

Over ten years ago, four Lerryn residents thought that it would be a good idea for like-minded ladies to sample together the food delights of Cornwall. The first outing, for 14 Lerryn ladies, was to the Tiapan restaurant in Fowey. We go out three or four times a year to a variety of restaurants and we take it in turn to organise the outings.

The Association was formed by a group of enthusiastic local gardeners during 1949 and the Annual Show has been held on the first Saturday in August since that time.

From the start the Show has been organised in conjunction with the Lerryn Women’s Institute who are responsible for the cookery classes and we are fortunate to have many entries from local children, including superb photographic entries from Lerryn School.

Various fund-raising events have been held in support of village causes, including Garden Visits, Quizzes, Lectures with Slides, Bingo and Whist Drives. Now the main events are the May Plant Sale and Coffee Morning together with the Annual Show.

We need our young and older residents to help this important part of village life to continue.

- Lerryn Memorial Hall Lerryn Memorial Hall | Edit
Lerryn, Lostwithiel, Cornwall, PL22 0QB.
Map
Originally built in 1926 as a village institute, the previous hall was extended in the late 1950s and dedicated to all those from the village who gave their lives in the First and Second World Wars. The hall was always the centre of Lerryn village life but by the end of the 20th century had become somewhat dilapidated. It was therefore decided to raise funds for a complete rebuild in time for the new millennium. Under the leadership of Francis Allfrey this was achieved using funds raised by the people of Lerryn and by outside funding.
In June 2000 the hall was reopened by the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall and re-dedicated to the memory of those who gave their lives and continues to be known as the Memorial Hall.
The new building includes a snooker room with a full sized snooker table, a large hall with a stage for performances, a well equipped kitchen and three store rooms and also has an upstairs committee room. It is licensed for public performances.
In the main hall is a projector and screen for showing films, stage lights and stage curtains and plenty of chairs and tables. As well as film presentations the hall is used on a regular basis for Pantomimes and Revues and other public performances, for the Lerryn Parent and Toddler Group, Short Mat Bowls Competitions, Yoga classes, Lerryn W.I. meetings, Lerryn Art Group, Lerryn Produce Association, Jumble sales, various committee meetings and for parties and weddings.
Our Memorial Hall is an amenity of which we are all proud !
To book the Hall please ring Helen Pearce on 01208 872633.
Charges are as follows:

£6/hour for the use of the main hall,
£3/hour for the use of the projector and

LERRYN PLAYERS

We use local talent to put on shows, usually in the Memorial Hall in Lerryn. We do a pantomime most Christmases (Oh, yes, we do!) and sometimes we also produce informal revue evenings in the Spring and early Summer. See the website calendar for dates of forthcoming productions.

Because we are a registered charity, we have been able more than once to access grant money to set up drama training opportunities for our junior members.

We always welcome new members – to act, write, sing, dance, stage manage, direct, help with costumes, make props and scenery, share the admin on the committee … all that fun for only £1 a year membership! Contact the Secretary on 01208 873738.

Contact: Pru Cornwall - Bookings Secretary, Phone: 01208 873488
The Red Store was for many years an old riverside grain warehouse before it fell into disuse. It has been much painted and photographed over the years and like the stepping stones is symbolic of Lerryn!

It was purchased by the Parish Councils of St Veep and St Winnow and has recently been sensitively refurbished using conservation techniques. This work was grant funded.

This is now a community building which provides two craft workshops on the first floor and the lower floor (Gallery) is available for hire as follows:

Hourly Rate: £5/hour or part thereof
IT Equipment: £3/hour
One Day: £25/day 8am to 10pm
Week: £150 for 7 Days

Contact the Booking Secretary for further details.
- RIVER LERRYN YACHT SQUADRON RIVER LERRYN YACHT SQUADRON | Edit
A very small village organisation formed 21 years ago to encourage boating on the Lerryn and Fowey rivers.

With no constitution, rules, regulations, subscriptions, fees, funds or premises, it consists solely of a committee of eight members who organise two boating events on the river each year. The committee meets irregularly at The Ship Inn to discuss, with adequate lubrication, the complexities of organising the world famous British Seagull Outboard Motor Race around Christmas time and the “Summer Solstice” event in mid-summer. Any money raised is donated to the RNLI, village organisations and local charities.

For more info check the Calendar pages nearer the date.

Contact: Secretary, Phone: 01208 871430 , Email, Website
The local branch of the RNLI is lively, active and well supported by the folk in Lerryn and the surrounding area.

The Branch organises a programme of fundraising events locally, some in Lerryn, and these have proved very popular. Watch the Calendar on this website for details.

Invariably the AGM with a guest speaker is held in the Lerryn Memorial Hall around April each year.

The RNLI, and particularly the lads and lasses who man the lifeboats in all weather conditions, are grateful for the support provided by our community.

We look forward to your continued participation in Branch activities.

The Tuesday Club started over 35 years ago as a Young Wives Group for the parishes of St Veep and St Winnow. As the years went by and we all got older, it was decided to rename the group as the Tuesday Club.

The group welcomes women of all ages to the monthly meetings held on the last Tuesday of each month (except July, August and Decemebr). There is no formal membership or annual subscription but a charge is made to cover the cost of hiring the hall etc. We have speakers and demonstrators covering a variety of subjects and we also visit gardens and places of interest.

If you would like more information, please phone Penny Philp on 01208 873169.

Whitecross Village Hall.
Contact: Sue Watts, Chairman, Phone: 01208-871513, Email
Whitecross & District Gardening Club meets on the third Thursday of each month at Whitecross Village Hall. It is a lively friendly club with 84 members enjoying a wide and varied programme throughout the year.

Speakers often bring a range of specialist plants which are for sale after their talk, whilst we enjoy a chat and a cup of tea or coffee.

In December the Village Hall is transformed for the Christmas Party, a special event, where we enjoy a delicious meal together with our partners in a warm friendly atmosphere.
February & March sees us swapping seeds, encouraging each other to grow new plants and divide old favourites for our annual sale held in May. This year the sale was held at Hall Farm, courtesy of Gavin and Margaret Shakerley, and a great time was had by all!
During the summer we arrange garden visits and outings. We think you will agree this is pretty good value for £7 a year membership.

As a group who share a love of and an interest in plants and gardening we are keen to support young people and we have agreed a Bursary Award to help anyone who is undertaking or about to embark on training in horticulture. If this applies to you, or you know of anyone who fits the bill, then we would love to hear from you.

Our 2009/2010 programme is available from the end of August. (See also Website Calendar)
