From Looe Police

February 3rd 2009

It has been reported to us that Bogus Callers are currently in the area of Liskeard.

These callers are calling on elderly people and claiming that they are behind with their electricity bills, obtaining money and giving written receipts.

One is described as white male, aged about 60 years, grey hair, medium build wearing a deerstalker hat with the flaps down.

Please remember to always keep the chain on the door and verify the caller's identity by phoning the Company in the Phone Book. If in doubt keep them out.

If you have any concerns then please contact us on 08452 777 444 quoting CMS and Police Log No. 430 06/01/09. Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Thank you for your Co-operation.

RNLI - SOS (Share our Soup!) day exceptionally well supported.

February 1st 2009

Saturdays "Share Our Soup day" was very well supported,  raising around £500 net for RNLI funds.

Our thanks go to to all those who turned up to enjoy a mug of soup and a "sinful" dessert making the event such a wonderful social occasion.

Thanks are also due to the ladies who catered for the event and managed to keep going even when numbers outstripped expectations.

W.I. Ballroom Dancing Workshop inpires rhyme!

February 1st 2009

BALLROOM DANCING

A group of us came to take the chance

Patricia could teach us how to dance.

First the quick step – nothing slow

How we did it I don’t know.

Slow, slow, quick, quick, slow

Round you go and mind that toe.

The progressive barn dance challenged the men

Room for improvement, ‘Let’s do it again’!

WI Ladies learn the rudiments!

January 17th 2009

Members of the WI immensely enjoyed their Carpentry Workshop on 15th January.

They spent the day under the watchful eye of Richard Halliday, who appeared quite undaunted by seven ladies wielding various tools which many had never handled before!

Thanks to Richard’s professional tuition, we mastered the art of measuring, sawing, nailing, drilling and screwing.

By the end of the day we had all completed a bird box and some were well on the way to producing a planter. Such was the enthusiasm that we all wanted more!                        Thanks again Richard.

A fitting send off for a special lady.

January 15th 2009

On Monday 12th January after a Cremation Service at Glynn Valley, Lerryn said farewell in style to Jean D. Elliott in the Lerryn Memorial Hall, where a feast and a beautiful arrangement of flowers was set before all the guests.

Our heartfelt thanks go to members of the Lerryn Women’s Institute for organising and providing the refreshments, along with contributions from other Ladies in the village, and later for making good afterwards with help from the volunteers.

It was an occasion exemplifying Lerryn at its sociable very best.

"Proper Job"

Ronald and Family.
