Community Events

All you need to know about asking LAMA to support your community event

As a condition of our operator's licence, the LAMA minibus is not available for "private hire" unless it is for a purpose that is of benefit to the community.  Community events could include local festivals, flower shows, music concerts, theatrical productions and funerals.

Borrowing the LAMA Minibus for Funerals

The minibus may be used for funerals for transporting members of the local community, family and close friends to and from a remembrance ceremony and/or funeral reception, provided that the gatherings are freely open to members of the local community who wish to pay their respects.  This usage could involve running a number of trips between each location.  The LAMA minibus would be borrowed by the grieving family and/or close friends (normal loan rates would apply, click here for details), but the scheduling would be managed by LAMA to ensure that there was benefit to the community.  Special consideration may be given to the particular circumstances and needs of the grieving family, but adequate provision must be made to enable members of the local community to use the minibus.  Any loan would, of course, be subject to driver availability.

Using the LAMA Minibus in Support of Local Events

The LAMA minibus may be used in support of community events that are organised by "local not-for-profit organisations that provide a benefit to the community" in accordance with normal loan arrangements (click here for details).

Community events that are organised by "local businesses and/or agencies that cannot properly be described as not-for-profit" may still be supported by LAMA provided that the event itself can be regarded as being of benefit to the community.  The LAMA committee would make this assessment and a lead time of 10 weeks would be needed to permit adequate planning and publicity.  If approved by the LAMA committee, the LAMA minibus would operate a scheduled service in support of the event, as determined by LAMA in consultation with the organisers.  Any support would, of course, be subject to driver availability.  Organisations should, in the first instance, contact the LAMA loans officer to discuss requirements (see our "Who You Gonna Call?" section on our home page).
