Over 250 people join Cornwall Council Walk at Pentillie Castle

October 22nd 2009

This month's Cornwall Council Walk to Pentillie Castle on the banks of the Tamar exceeded even the organisers optimistic expectations. Over 250 people from all over Cornwall (Lerryn was represented!) flocked to join the walk which included guided tours of the estate and the house. The house and grounds had been closed for over 30 years and have only recently started having "open days" so there was much interest as this walk included parts of the estate which have not been previously open to the public. The walk finished with a "bangers & mash" lunch (for which there was a small charge) in the house and adjoining marquee.

The "Castle" has been extensively refurbished to a high standard and is used for weddings and functions as well as offering accomodation, although the gardens are still reminiscent of Heligan in the early days. The original Repton landscaping is slowly being restored.

These Walks are free and are run by Cornwall Council.  Advance notices are displayed on the Parish Council and other notice boards in the village.

"Maid" in Lerryn?

October 1st 2009

Yes they really were.  These cuties are the result of a holiday romance between Tatty Johnson and Scamp Knott.

Tatty made the short trip down Piggy Lane and "visited" Scamp whilst she was on her annual holiday.

One of the brown pups, a girl, will be coming to live in Lerryn in a few weeks time!

And did those paddles.....?

September 30th 2009

Downderry WI, paddling downstream last week under the auspices of Encounter Cornwall, were amazed to hear the strains of 'Jerusalem' wafting across to them from a house on the right hand bank. They didn't know who was playing it but they joined in and sang along anyway - and found it worked very well with the movement of a kayak. (This would probably have been news to both Blake and Parry.)  Whoever it was, grateful thanks from the visiting WI!
